Myrtillocactus geometrizans
DESERT BLUE CANDLES

Shrubby, candelabra formed, blue toned branches bear small, stout, black stars of spines. A full grown plant can develop quite a bit of mass as stems are fairly thick and heavily branched, with an overall size of up to 4 feet and perhaps as wide as 6-8 feet, growing very slowly. Mature plants bear lots of small, almost insignificant greenish-cream colored flowers in the summer. Because of this, it is obvious that the plant is prized for its unique stem color rather than for its "spectacular" flowers. Plant must be regularly fertilized for it to achieve a lush and intense stem color, otherwise a "tired" yellow predominates. Appreciates extra water and fertilizer during warm growing season or in hot, inland, desert climates. Hardy to low 20s; full sun.
